A runaway dog named Amalka caused a big stir at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport when she escaped from her carrier, forcing the closure of two runways for several hours. Amalka, a female dog, slipped out of her cage on November 19 during an unloading operation after arriving from Vienna on an Air France flight.
A Nine-Day Search
For nine days, airport officials and police worked hard to find the missing dog. Air France said that after days of searching, they were happy to announce that Amalka had been found and safely returned to her owner.
Runway Closures and Search Efforts
On Tuesday, the airport had to close two of its runways to search for Amalka. Airport police used a drone to help with the search, and they timed the operation to avoid disrupting any scheduled flights.
Meanwhile, the search for Amalka continued around the clock, even at night. Posters were put up around the airport, and Air France covered the hotel costs for the dog’s owner, an Austrian tourist, while they waited for news.
Happy Reunion
After many days of searching, Amalka was finally found in a park in Dammartin-en-Goele, a town near the airport. A heartwarming video showed the moment Amalka was reunited with her owner, wagging her tail with joy while the owner gave her a big hug.
Air France confirmed that both Amalka and her owner would soon continue their travels to their final destination, safely together at last.
Charles de Gaulle Airport, with its four runways, is one of the busiest airports in Europe, competing with Amsterdam Schiphol for the top spot.
