Former senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson believes that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will not back down from powerful countries trying to pressure the Philippines.
Lacson made this statement after a heated argument at the White House between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine’s war with Russia. Zelenskyy wanted to secure U.S. support, but Trump and his Vice President JD Vance accused him of being ungrateful. The disagreement became so intense that Zelenskyy was reportedly asked to leave, and Trump later stopped all U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
Lacson, who is running for senator under the administration’s Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas, compared this situation to the Philippines’ own history. He reminded Filipinos that their past leaders, from the Spanish era to World War II, have always defended the nation’s sovereignty and freedom.
“I trust that no matter who tries to pressure us, our leaders will stand up for the Philippines,” Lacson said in a radio interview.
Meanwhile, President Marcos has shown support for Ukraine’s fight for peace. He praised the courage and patriotism of Ukrainians as they continue to defend their country against Russia.
Lacson remains hopeful that Marcos, like past Philippine presidents, will always stand strong for the nation, no matter who the “bully” is.
