President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is asking government officials to quickly help Filipinos who were affected by big immigration operations happening in Los Angeles, California.
These operations are being done by ICE, which stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement — a group in the U.S. that checks if people are following immigration rules.
🇵🇭 The President Is Watching Closely
A government officer named Atty. Claire Castro said that President Marcos is keeping a close watch on what’s happening. He gave special instructions to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Consulate in LA (that’s the office that helps Filipinos abroad) to monitor the situation and help Filipinos who might be in trouble.
But the President also gave a reminder: Filipinos living or working abroad should always follow the rules and laws of the country they’re in.
“Let’s help every Filipino, especially those working in other countries,” said Castro. “But they should also follow the laws in the country where they live or work.”
🚨 One Filipino Arrested
The Philippine Consulate in LA reported that one Filipino was arrested at his home by ICE. The Consul General, Adelio Angelito Cruz, said that this Filipino had been found guilty of stealing and hurting someone (the charges were theft and rape). Because of this, the U.S. is now sending him back to the Philippines — this is called deportation.
🪧 Protests in LA
Many people in Los Angeles are not happy with the way these immigration raids are being done. Some say they are unfair and hurt innocent people. So, they are protesting in the streets, holding signs and marching to speak out.
🪖 Troops Called In
Because things are getting tense, the U.S. has sent over 2,000 National Guard troops to help with the raids, especially in Los Angeles. These troops are there to help keep things safe and make sure the operations go as planned.
President Marcos wants to make sure Filipinos abroad are treated fairly, but he also reminds everyone to obey the law — no matter where they are in the world.
