Something really big and serious is happening in downtown Los Angeles, California. For three days in a row, people have been marching and protesting against U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration rules. Some of these protests have turned violent, and now the police are stepping in.
🚨 Police Say: “Go Home!”
On Sunday night, the Los Angeles police said everyone in downtown had to leave because things were getting out of control. They called the area an “unlawful assembly”, which means it’s not safe to gather there anymore. People were shouting, some were throwing bottles and concrete, and even a self-driving car caught fire!
Police officers on horses tried to keep the crowds calm, but some people even blocked a major highway called the 101 Freeway.
đźš” People Are Getting Arrested
The police said they arrested 10 people on Sunday and 29 people the night before. They said it’s okay to protest peacefully, but they don’t accept violence. The police chief said the bad behavior was “disgusting” and that the protests were going too far.
🪧 Why Are People Protesting?
The protests are about President Trump’s immigration plan. He wants to arrest and send away (deport) many people who are living in the U.S. without permission. He told the immigration officers (called ICE) to arrest at least 3,000 people every day.
Lots of people think this is too harsh and unfair, so they’ve taken to the streets to show how they feel. But now that some protests have turned violent, things are getting scary.
🪖 National Guard Is Called In
President Trump sent 2,000 National Guard soldiers to help the police in Los Angeles. But the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, is very upset about it. He said Trump didn’t have permission to send the soldiers, and he’s even planning to sue the U.S. government!
Governor Newsom believes that Trump is trying to cause chaos on purpose, just to look like he’s taking control. He said the people in California should be able to handle things their own way.
📢 Big Names Speak Out
-
Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles said the Trump team is making things worse by sending the military.
-
President Trump, on the other hand, called the protesters “violent mobs” and told the police to take strong action.
-
The White House said they had to step in because of all the “chaos and lawlessness.”
🇺🇸 Could the U.S. Military Step In?
Trump hasn’t used the Insurrection Act yet (a very old law that lets a president send in the military), but he said he might if things get even worse. Meanwhile, U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton are already on high alert, just in case.
So, what started as peaceful protests about immigration has now turned into a huge national conflict — with arrests, troops, and shouting crowds in the streets. Leaders are arguing about what to do next… and everyone’s watching closely.
