Lake Holon: A Temporary Pause in Paradise
In a heartbreaking turn of events, South Cotabato’s stunning Lake Holon, often referred to as the “Crown Jewel of the South,” has temporarily closed its doors to visitors. This decision follows a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Mindanao on Monday morning.
The local government of T’boli took to Facebook to announce the heartbreaking news. Activities in and around the breathtaking crater lake, along with other cherished tourist destinations in the municipality, are now suspended until further notice.
Nestled atop the majestic Mount Melibingoy, Lake Holon is more than just a beautiful sight—it’s a treasured escape for hikers and nature lovers alike. The lush green surroundings, mirrored waters, and serene atmosphere make it a place where people come to feel alive, disconnected from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
However, the earthquake, which struck offshore Sarangani at 7:37 a.m., has led to some alarming events. In its wake, nine provinces were placed under a tsunami warning, sending ripples of concern across the region.
As of now, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has reported that the number of casualties in Mindanao has tragically risen to 19. Every life lost in such disasters resonates deeply; families are affected and communities shaken.
As we process the aftermath of this frightening event, our thoughts are with those impacted. Lake Holon may be closed for now, but it stands resilient, waiting for the day when its tranquil beauty will once again welcome all who seek its solace.
Stay safe, everyone. Let’s support each other during this challenging time.
