A very serious and heartbreaking problem is happening right now in Gaza, a place where many people — including children and families — are going hungry every day.
More than 170 charity groups from all over the world just stood up and said:
“This has to stop.”
But what are they talking about?
🚨 A Food Aid Plan That’s Hurting People?
These groups are asking for the shutdown of a food delivery system called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation or GHF, which is supported by the United States and Israel.
The goal of this system was to bring food to starving people in Gaza — but here’s the shocking part:
Over 500 people have been killed while trying to get food from aid trucks or near areas guarded by soldiers.
That’s right — people are dying just trying to get something to eat.
❗Why So Dangerous?
Here’s what’s happening:
-
The GHF uses private American companies to bring food into Gaza.
-
The system avoids the usual United Nations (UN) way of giving food aid.
-
Israel said the old UN system wasn’t safe because some aid might be getting stolen by Hamas militants (a group they consider dangerous).
-
But the UN and charity groups say the new system is even more dangerous because:
-
People have to walk very long distances to get food.
-
They pass through areas with fighting or gunfire.
-
Many end up getting hurt or even killed along the way.
-
One charity said it best:
“Palestinians in Gaza face an impossible choice: starve or risk being shot while trying to feed their families.”
🏥 Big Names Join the Fight
The groups that signed the joint statement are some of the biggest and most respected in the world, including:
-
Oxfam
-
Doctors Without Borders
-
Save the Children
-
Norwegian Refugee Council
-
Amnesty International
They want the world to pressure Israel to stop the GHF system and let the UN take over again.
🔥 GHF Fires Back
But the GHF says they’ve already given out more than 52 million meals in just 5 weeks — and they say other groups are just complaining instead of helping.
“Instead of arguing, they should help us feed the people,” GHF told reporters.
They also say most of the other aid from different groups was looted or stolen, which is why they had to do things differently.
💥 What Will Happen Next?
Even the Israeli military admitted that civilians have been harmed at the aid centers and said they’re trying to do better by changing some of their orders.
But the big question remains:
👉 Can food aid be delivered safely without hurting the very people it’s meant to help?
👉 Will Israel let the United Nations step back in?
For now, families in Gaza are still caught in the middle — hungry, scared, and just trying to survive.
