Vice President Sara Duterte just got back home to the Philippines early in the morning on Saturday, June 14. She flew in with her family on a Philippine Airlines flight (PR 530), which landed at 5:43 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
She had been in Malaysia for four days on a personal trip with her family. But while she was there, she also joined a big celebration with many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for Malaysia’s Independence Day.
But here’s where the drama begins.
Big News While She Was Away
While VP Sara was still in Malaysia, something serious happened back home. The Senate Sergeant-At-Arms gave her a very important paper called a “writ of summons”. This is part of a legal process because she’s being impeached—which means there’s a case trying to remove her from her job.
This all started back in February, when more than 200 lawmakers in the House of Representatives agreed to accuse her of very serious things, including:

Betrayal of public trust

Breaking the Constitution

Graft and corruption (that means stealing or being dishonest with money)

Other high crimes
So far, the Senate (which is like a group of judges for this case) decided not to throw out the case. But they also didn’t say she’s guilty yet. Instead, they voted 18-5 to send the case back to the House of Representatives for now. That means it’s still ongoing, and we’ll hear more about it soon.
VP Sara Says: “My Lawyers Are Getting Ready”
The Vice President isn’t ignoring the case. She said her team of lawyers is already working on how to respond to the Senate’s summons.
What’s Next for VP Sara?
Even though this big case is happening, VP Sara has things to do. Her office said she will go to Davao City on Monday, June 16, to attend the 2025 PASIDUNGOG awarding ceremony, a special event in her hometown.
