The House Committee on Justice made a decisive move on Tuesday… and it’s one that could shake the course of the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has been ordered to appear.
A subpoena has been issued—requiring him to testify at the next hearing set for April 22.
—
During the proceedings, Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima stood up and made the call. Calm, firm, and deliberate.
She pushed for a subpoena—both to compel Trillanes to testify and to bring in key documents.
These documents, she stressed, are tied to serious allegations…
ill-gotten wealth… and undisclosed assets in the Vice President’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
De Lima didn’t mince words.
She emphasized that Trillanes’ testimony could be crucial—“very relevant” to the case.
After all, his name appears in the third impeachment complaint.
And he has already spoken before, during House Quad Committee hearings on the controversial drug war.
Moments later… the panel approved the motion.
—
But that wasn’t the only powerful move of the day.
The committee also turned its attention to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).
Another subpoena was issued.
This time, the AMLC was ordered to appear at the same April 22 hearing—and to bring records of bank transactions involving Vice President Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio.
The timeline is extensive… spanning nearly two decades—from 2006 to 2025.
Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña led this motion.
He requested detailed reports on both covered and suspicious transactions filed by banks… along with any investigation reports linked to them.
He also asked that these documents be submitted ahead of time—on or before April 22—so the committee can review everything carefully.
And if no records exist?
The AMLC must say so—clearly and officially.
The panel approved this motion as well.

Now, all eyes are on April 22… 10 a.m.
A hearing that could bring new revelations.
New testimonies.
And possibly… turning points in a case that continues to grip the nation.
