A Week of Uncertainty at the Pump: What to Expect for Gas Prices
Motorists, get ready for a week filled with uncertainty at the gas pump. This week, you could experience either rollbacks or hikes in gasoline prices, while diesel and kerosene users should brace themselves for definite price increases. According to the recent guidelines from the Department of Energy (DOE), here’s what you need to know:
Gasoline Price Changes
– Rollback: Up to ₱1.00
– Hike: Up to ₱1.00
Diesel and Kerosene Hikes
– Diesel: Increases ranging from ₱2.62 to ₱4.62
– Kerosene: Increases ranging from ₱2.22 to ₱4.22
The actual changes will depend on your local fuel retailer, and all adjustments will take effect on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The Bigger Picture
DOE Secretary Sharon Garin highlighted that the recent tensions in the region, particularly threats to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, are putting pressure on international crude oil prices. This, in turn, is impacting us—right here at the pump.
“It’s a delicate situation,” she said during a virtual briefing. “The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy trade corridors, and it makes us vulnerable to these fluctuations.”
This week, motorists will have to navigate their own routes through uncertainty, with prices that can swing dramatically based on global conditions.
Looking Ahead
Garin also hinted that if these volatile trends continue, the DOE might change how they report price adjustments. Instead of providing a range, they may issue specific amounts for price changes—be it a rollback or a hike. “Next week, if things remain unstable, we might eliminate the range altogether and provide a definite figure,” she mentioned.
So, as you prepare to refill your tank this week, keep your eyes on the news. Stay informed and plan accordingly, because, as we’ve learned, navigating the world of fuel prices requires both awareness and adaptability.
Stay safe out there, and may your tank be full—and your wallet not too empty.
