Celebrating Eid’l Adha: What It Means for Employees on May 27, 2026
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 27, 2026! This day is special for all employees in the private sector, as it is designated a regular holiday to honor Eid’l Adha, one of the most significant Islamic feasts.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has shared important guidelines to ensure that everyone is informed and treated fairly. So, let’s break down what this holiday means for your paycheck.
Here’s What You Need to Know About Pay Rates:
1. Regular Holiday Work:
If you find yourself working on this day, get ready for a payday boost. You’ll earn 200% of your daily salary for the first eight hours. Yes, that’s your basic wage multiplied by two!
2. Extra Hours? Extra Pay!
Working beyond those first eight hours? You’ll receive even more. On top of the 200%, you’ll earn an additional 30% on your hourly rate for each extra hour worked. That’s right, it’s your basic hourly rate multiplied by 200%, and then further multiplied by 130% for every hour you put in.
3. Rest Day Coincidence:
If Eid’l Adha falls on your rest day and you work, don’t worry! You’ll still get that generous 200% base pay, plus an extra 30% on top of it.
4. Pay if You Don’t Work:
Not planning to work on this day? You’re still entitled to 100% of your wage, as long as you reported for work or were on a paid leave the day before the holiday.
5. Non-Working Days and Holidays:
In cases where the day before this holiday is a non-working day for your establishment or your regular rest day, you still have the right to that holiday pay provided you reported for work on the working day before it.
A Moment to Reflect
May 27, 2026, isn’t just another day on the calendar; it’s an opportunity to embrace community, gratitude, and sacrifice, values that Eid’l Adha teaches us. This holiday honors the spirit of giving and sharing, amplifying a sense of togetherness among diverse cultures.
Earlier this year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. officially declared this date as a holiday, recognizing its importance for Muslim communities.
So, as we approach this meaningful day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the significance of Eid’l Adha. Whether you’re taking a break to celebrate with loved ones or working to serve others, it’s a day rich with emotion and cultural heritage.
Let’s cherish our hard work and be proud of the community spirit that brings us all together. Celebrate, rest, or work—whatever you choose, make it a special day!
