Filipinos Enjoy Final Days of Cool Amihan in Tagaytay

Embracing the Last Breezy Days of Amihan: A Filipino Adventure

As the warm embrace of summer begins to sneak in, Filipinos are making the most of the delightful “aircon weather”—the final days of the Amihan season. This is the time when cool breezes offer a sweet reprieve from the heat, drawing people out of their homes and into the vibrant beauty of nature.

A Warm Welcome in Tagaytay

In Tagaytay City, the charm of cool weather is irresistible. Groups are gathering to soak in the refreshing air. A zumba group from Bulacan took a trip up the hills, laughing and dancing amidst the mild breeze. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, as friends bonded over joy and movement, relishing every moment before the sweltering days take over.

Serenity in Silang, Cavite

Just a short distance away in Silang, Cavite, there lies a peaceful Korean temple—a little slice of heaven. The serene surroundings are perfect for picnics, capturing beautiful memories, or simply meditating while enjoying the gentle winds. Best of all? Entrance is absolutely free! It’s a haven for all who crave tranquility away from the hustle and bustle.

Principal Arjay Viray of the Lumbini Institute of Cavite captures the feeling perfectly, sharing, “Touchdown Korea nga ‘yung sinasabi ng mga tao. Kung gusto mo ‘yung lamig, pero at the same time gusto mo ‘yung katahimikan, this is the perfect place para bisitahin.” It’s as if the weary souls of the city have transported themselves to another world—far from their everyday worries.

Dressing for the Occasion

The excitement continues as senior citizens from Cabuyao, Laguna don elegant hanbok, the beautiful traditional dress from Korea. Emy Laro gleefully shares, “That experience, kunyari nasa Korea kami.” With each swirl of their vibrant garments, they embody a spirit of joy and exploration, savoring the chilled air together.

Nearby, Ding Belarmino’s group practices the Stations of the Cross, taking advantage of the serene weather to nurture their faith. Moments like these, filled with reflection and camaraderie, remind us of the beauty in sharing such experiences.

Baguio: The Cold Haven

Meanwhile, the beautiful city of Baguio is feeling a bit cooler. Students at Benguet State University can be seen bundled up in jackets, both in and out of the classroom, as the temperature dips to a crisp 12.4 degrees Celsius. La Trinidad, Benguet isn’t far behind, with early morning temperatures plummeting to a chilly 9.8 degrees before 8 a.m.

The invigorating winds of Amihan are also sweeping through Casiguran, Aurora, where the temperature registers at a fresh 19.8 degrees Celsius. As the weather changes, many are reminded of the fleeting beauty of these cooler days before the sun intensifies its shine.

A Change on the Horizon

Chris Perez, Assistant Weather Services Chief of PAGASA, offers a glimpse into the future. “Normally naman kung titingnan po natin ‘yung mga historical data natin, ang Amihan po is either month of February or month of March na-te-terminate,” he explains. With the end of the Amihan season looming in the last week of March, we’re reminded to cherish these final moments of sublime coolness.

As we bask in the last days of Amihan, let’s celebrate the connections, memories, and blessings this season has bestowed upon us. The warm days will soon be upon us, but for now, let us savor the beauty of the cool, take a deep breath, and enjoy this magical time together.
