Arrest Made in 30 OFWs Recruitment Scam in Cambodia!

NBI Busts Suspect in Human Trafficking Case: A Hopeful Turn for 30 Filipino Workers

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have taken decisive action against illegal recruitment and human trafficking that has affected 30 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). These workers, searching for better opportunities, found themselves ensnared in alarming scam operations in Cambodia.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shed light on this troubling case. They revealed that three brave OFW complainants came forward, identifying a suspect who lured them with false job offers abroad. Tragically, instead of fulfilling their dreams, they were led straight into the darkness of scam hubs in Cambodia.

On October 11, the NBI International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) made a significant breakthrough by arresting the suspect in Pasay City. The investigation uncovered that this individual exploited online platforms, promoting fictitious job titles like customer service representatives and online casino encoders.

The victims, now sharing their stories, described working grueling hours under abusive conditions. To add to their plight, their passports were confiscated, stripping them of their freedom. The DMW reported that this same suspect also promised hefty commissions, ranging from P40,000 to P200,000, for OFWs willing to engage in suspicious online financial dealings.

Currently, these 30 Filipino workers are receiving care and support at the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, as they begin to piece their lives back together. Meanwhile, the DMW is intensifying efforts to track down an alleged accomplice in Metro Manila, who is now a target of a government manhunt.

Amidst the darkness of this situation, there is a silver lining. The DMW has confirmed that these workers have safely returned to the Philippines, where they are receiving vital assistance from the government. Their courage and resilience shine a light on the importance of awareness and vigilance against illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

This story serves as a poignant reminder of the risks many Filipinos face while seeking employment abroad. It’s crucial for everyone to stay informed and vigilant, ensuring that those around us do not fall prey to such heinous acts. Together, we can create a safer future for all aspiring workers.
