UN Inquiry: Israel’s Actions in Gaza are Genocide Against Children

Title: Tragedy Unfolding: A Look at the Crisis Facing Palestinian Children

In a chilling report released in Geneva, an independent United Nations inquiry revealed devastating findings: Israeli authorities and security forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children, which amounts to genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, particularly in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

This inquiry, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory—including East Jerusalem—has painted a grim picture of the ongoing conflict that escalated sharply after October 7, 2023, when hostilities erupted between Israel and Hamas.

Heart-wrenching Losses

The statistics are staggering. Approximately 30% of those killed in the Gaza conflict have been children, with a sinister total of at least 20,179 child casualties documented from October 2023 to October 2025. This heartbreaking figure starkly contrasts with previous conflicts—where children made up about 24% of fatalities—demonstrating just how severe the situation has become.

Srinivasan Muralidhar, the commission’s chair, stated, “The evidence shows that Palestinian children have been deliberately targeted and killed by the Israeli security forces.” This is a claim that weighs heavy with pain, highlighting how much innocence has been lost in this escalating violence.

A World in Denial

In response, the Israeli mission in Geneva dismissed these findings, condemning them as “scandalous” and “defamatory.” They stressed that Israel’s military operations aim to minimize harm to children, firmly rejecting any assertion that they deliberately target these young lives. Their statement claimed, “Every child deserves protection,” while also blaming Hamas for the ongoing tragedy.

Yet the report paints a different narrative, one where high-payload munitions have wreaked havoc in densely populated areas, leading to unprecedented child casualties. The inquiry suggests this was not mere collateral damage but indicative of deliberate targeting—including after a ceasefire was supposed to be in effect.

The Human Cost of Conflict

The report also described the dire conditions faced by children in Gaza, where ongoing attacks, repeated displacements, and severe shortages of food and aid have devastating consequences on their health and development. It’s a cycle of suffering, with many children facing trauma, starvation, and preventable deaths.

Moreover, healthcare facilities—crucial for safeguarding the most vulnerable—have come under fire, leading to increased miscarriages and complications for expectant mothers. Nearly all children in Gaza now reportedly require psychological support to cope with the trauma of their reality.

Dark Realities in the West Bank

The inquiry did not stop in Gaza. It also highlighted the escalating violence faced by Palestinian children in the West Bank, where evidence of torture and other inhumane treatment in detention has emerged. Reports of beatings, forced stripping, and food deprivation paint a horrifying picture of a system that systematically mistreats these young individuals.

The commission condemned this treatment as crimes against humanity. Yet, Israel’s rebuttal insisted the report overlooked the context of constant security threats faced by Israeli forces.

A Call for Humanity

As families bury their children and communities grapple with unspeakable tragedy, one simple truth remains: these innocent lives deserve so much more. Beyond the political statements and accusations lies the heart-wrenching reality of lost childhoods and fractured futures.

The international community must pay close attention and respond to these findings with urgency and compassion. Every child, regardless of their nationality or circumstances, deserves to grow up in a world free from violence and fear. It’s time for humanity to rise above the rhetoric and stand for the voiceless.
