Thunderstorms Slam PH, Trigger Sudden Flooding in Towns

MANILA, Philippines — On a stormy Saturday, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms hit many parts of the country, causing floods, traffic, and even flooded homes and schools. 🌧️🚗🏠

🚗 Streets Turn Into Rivers in Rizal

In a report from “24 Oras Weekend” by Jamie Santos, a motorist in Cainta, Rizal took a video showing cars trying hard to cross gutter-deep floodwater early Saturday morning.

  • In Montalban, Rizal, the flood reached ankle level.

  • Water made it hard for people to walk or drive safely.

🚦 Traffic Jam Nightmare

The rain didn’t just cause floods — it also caused huge traffic problems in key roads like:

  • E. Rodriguez Avenue

  • Sumulong Memorial Circle in Antipolo

  • Ortigas Avenue Extension

  • Taytay Diversion Road

Drivers were stuck in slow-moving traffic because many roads were partially flooded. 🚧🚙

🏠 Floodwaters Enter Homes in Marikina

In Barangay Malanday, Marikina, the water entered people’s houses. Residents had to clean up their drains to stop the water from rising even more.

They found trash, dried leaves, and even cement clogging the sewers!

Many locals are now calling on the government and local officials to take action, especially since the flood rose fast even though there wasn’t that much rain.

🏫 School in Misamis Oriental Also Flooded

In another report by Nico Waje, a school in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental was badly flooded after heavy rain from localized thunderstorms.

The school said the flooding happened because of two things:

  1. The strong rainfall

  2. An ongoing drainage construction project that made it hard for water to flow away

Students and teachers were affected, and cleanup was difficult. 🎒💦

⚡ Thunderstorms Across Metro Manila Too

The bad weather didn’t stop there.

Parts of Metro Manila were also hit by thunderstorms on Saturday, and people were seen rushing to take cover or avoid flooded areas.
