Taiwan VP says she won”t be intimidated after alleged China plot

Taiwan’s Vice President, Hsiao Bi-khim, has a strong message for China:
👉 “You can’t scare me!”

She said this after a shocking report revealed that some people from China’s secret service and diplomats tried to follow her and plan something dangerous when she visited Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, last year. 😮

What Happened in Prague?

Back in March 2024, Hsiao traveled to Prague to meet with leaders there. Although the Czech Republic doesn’t have official ties with Taiwan, they’ve become friendly with the island.

But while she was there, Czech military intelligence (that means the group that protects their country from danger) found out that:

  • Chinese diplomats followed her car

  • One Chinese driver ran a red light while chasing her

  • They were even planning to crash into her car to scare her 😱🚗💥

Fortunately, nothing bad happened because Czech security was alert and protected her the whole time.

Hsiao Speaks Out Loud and Proud 💬

After the news came out, Hsiao posted on social media (on X, formerly Twitter):

“The Chinese Communist Party’s illegal actions won’t stop me from speaking up for Taiwan!”

She also thanked the Czech authorities for keeping her safe, and praised lawmakers around the world who stood with her. She said clearly:

“Taiwan will not be silenced by threats.” 🇹🇼

What Did the Czech Republic Do?

The Czech government was upset too. They called out China for breaking diplomatic rules and gathering secret information about Hsiao’s meetings. A Czech spokesman said China even tried to prepare for a physical attack, but luckily, it never went beyond planning. 😤

They even called in China’s ambassador to talk about it at the time.

What Does China Say?

China, as usual, denied doing anything wrong. A government speaker said:

“We follow the law. The Czech Republic shouldn’t let Taiwan leaders visit or help people who want Taiwan to be independent.”

They said Hsiao’s visit was making a big deal out of nothing. But many don’t agree.

Taiwan Hits Back ✊

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (that’s the group that deals with China issues) said:

“What China did was very dangerous and wrong. They should explain and apologize right now.”

A Taiwanese security official also said this was an example of transnational repression, which means a country like China trying to scare people even outside their own borders.

What’s Happening Now?

China has been pressuring Taiwan more and more — not just with military threats, but also with sneaky actions like this one.

But Taiwan keeps saying:

“We will protect our freedom and democracy. Only the people of Taiwan can decide our future.”

This story shows the bravery of leaders like Hsiao Bi-khim, who refuse to be bullied — and the growing support from the world in standing up to threats and unfair behavior. 🌍🕊️
