Pope Francis in Hospital, Misses Sunday Prayer – Here’s Why!

ROME – Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church, is still in the hospital as doctors continue to treat him for a respiratory infection. The Vatican confirmed that the 88-year-old pontiff, who has been suffering from bronchitis for over a week, will not be leading his usual Sunday prayer this week.

Why Is the Pope in the Hospital?

On Friday morning, Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital, the largest medical center in Rome, where he is receiving specialized care. His doctors say he is showing signs of improvement, but they have advised him to get complete rest to help him recover fully.

A statement from the Vatican on Saturday confirmed that his treatment has been slightly adjusted based on new lab results. The good news? His latest test results show some improvement, and he has not had a fever.

However, there is no set date for his release yet. “We will see how he reacts to treatment,” said Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni.

How Is Pope Francis Spending His Time?

Even though he is resting, the pope is still staying connected to his faith. He received Holy Communion on Saturday, a sacred practice in the Catholic Church. He has been spending his time reading, praying, and reflecting, alternating between rest and spiritual devotion.

This Isn’t His First Hospital Visit

Pope Francis has faced several health challenges in recent years. In June 2023, he spent nine days in the same hospital after undergoing surgery for an abdominal hernia. Even before becoming pope, he had a lung infection as a young man, which led to part of one lung being removed.

In the past few months, he has struggled with lung infections and flu-like symptoms, making it difficult for him to speak at public events. In January and February, he attended events but had aides read his speeches because of his weak voice.

People Are Praying for His Recovery

Outside Gemelli Hospital, groups of devoted Catholics have gathered near a famous statue of Pope John Paul II, praying for Pope Francis’ recovery. Many believe he is an inspiration and hope for his quick healing.

One visitor, Giovanni Di Muro, who was at the hospital visiting his son, expressed concern: “We heard the news yesterday, and it made us sad. We just hope it’s not serious and that the pope will get better soon.”

What’s Next for Pope Francis?

For now, Pope Francis will remain under close medical supervision until he is strong enough to return to his duties. The Vatican has not given a specific release date, but doctors say his condition is improving.

As millions of people around the world continue to pray for his recovery, the Catholic Church remains hopeful that its beloved leader will soon be back to guiding and inspiring people worldwide.
