Peso Bounces Back to 62 per Dollar!

The Peso’s Path to Recovery: A Glimmer of Hope

On Friday, the Philippine peso took a much-needed step back towards stability, climbing to the P62-to-one-dollar mark. Just days earlier, it had breached P63 to the dollar—a staggering record low that marked the 27th time this year the currency had faced such a downturn. It’s no surprise that this rollercoaster journey has left many feeling anxious.

As the day progressed, the peso managed to gain 7.5 centavos, closing at P62.985 to the dollar after reaching an intraday low of P63.23. The fluctuations reflected a day filled with uncertainty, swinging between a high of P62.97 and the unsettling low.

In the midst of this volatile environment, Michael Ricafort, the chief economist at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., offered some encouraging insights. He described the peso’s recovery as a “correction,” influenced by improving market sentiment—not just locally, but globally. This uplift followed some less aggressive signals from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, which eased concerns about potential interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.

These signals have been a breath of fresh air for investors, reducing the chances of another increase when the Fed meets again on October 28, 2026.

Ricafort further noted that there appeared to be interventions aimed at reducing volatility whenever the peso hovered above P63 to the dollar.

Looking ahead, he projected that the US dollar-peso exchange rate could stabilize between P62.85 and P63.05 on Monday. For the following week, he suggested the range might narrow even further, falling between P62.70 and P63.20.

In the face of uncertainty, these words provide a glimmer of hope. The peso’s recent bounce back reminds us that even amidst challenges, there’s potential for recovery and stability. The journey isn’t over, but with each step forward, there’s a sense of resilience and optimism in the air.

Stay tuned, as we continue to navigate these financial waters together.
