Pepsi Paloma Film Blocked from PH Cinemas This February?

Filmmaker Darryl Yap has announced that his much-anticipated film, “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma,” will not be hitting Philippine cinemas this February. The reason? His team failed to complete the necessary documents required by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Why the Delay?

On Monday, Yap shared on Facebook that they were unable to submit all the required paperwork on time. Because of this, it is impossible for the film to premiere in local cinemas on its planned release date, February 5.

“I want to inform everyone who has been waiting that we were unable to complete the documents required by the MTRCB. Because of this, the film will not be released in cinemas this February,” Yap explained.

What’s Next for the Film?

Since the February and March schedules for cinema screenings are already fully booked, Yap and his team are now considering alternative options:
Releasing the film internationally 🎥
Skipping cinemas entirely and launching it on streaming platforms instead 💻

“Whatever happens, the public will be informed immediately,” he assured his followers.

What Does the MTRCB Say?

The MTRCB confirmed that Yap’s film is “not under review” at the moment because it has incomplete requirements. The board refused to process the film’s submission because the film’s distributor, PinoyFlix Films and Entertainment Production, had not provided three key documents:

1️⃣ Certificate of No Pending Criminal Case (from the Regional Trial Court)
2️⃣ Certificate of No Pending Civil Case (from the Department of Justice)
3️⃣ Certificate of No Pending Administrative Case (from the Office of the City Prosecutor)

Without these documents, the MTRCB cannot review or approve the film for screening.

Legal Trouble Over the Film’s Teaser

This isn’t the only challenge Yap is facing. On January 24, the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 ordered him to take down the teaser for the film. The issue? It mentioned actor Vic Sotto’s name, which led to legal concerns.

Despite this, Yap is still allowed to continue producing the film and eventually release it—as long as he meets all legal requirements.

What Happens Now?

As of now, Yap and his team are waiting for approval to proceed with the film’s screening. Whether it will be shown in cinemas later this year or move directly to streaming platforms remains uncertain.

One thing is for sure—the controversy surrounding this film is far from over! 🎬🔥
