Over 50 Countries Agree to UN’s Sustainable Tourism Plan

In a big step towards saving the planet, more than 50 countries have agreed to make tourism more eco-friendly. They signed a special U.N. agreement at a climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. The tourism industry is responsible for a lot of pollution, making up almost 9% of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Now, countries are promising to include tourism in their climate action plans to reduce these emissions.

Tourism is very important for many countries, helping them earn money, but it can also be affected by climate problems like hurricanes and droughts. This new agreement aims to protect the environment and the tourism industry for the future.

Along with the agreement, new plans are being introduced to track and reduce the environmental impact of tourism. For example, hotel groups are now measuring things like energy use, water consumption, and waste to help travelers see how their actions affect the planet. Big hotel brands like Accor, Hilton, and Marriott are joining in to make a difference.

The hope is that this agreement will help create a more sustainable tourism industry, protecting both the environment and the places we love to visit!
