Marcos Plans Largest Dialysis Center in Southeast Asia

A Vision for Health: President Marcos Champions the NKTI Legacy Building

In a heartfelt commitment to healthcare, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. recently announced the construction of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) Legacy Building in Quezon City. This ambitious project holds the promise of becoming the largest dialysis center in Southeast Asia, a beacon of hope for thousands of Filipinos facing chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Addressing a Critical Need

As he walked through the site on Friday, the President expressed a deep concern for the health needs of the nation. “Our population greatly needs this facility,” he stated, highlighting a staggering statistic: over 11% of Filipinos currently suffer from chronic kidney disease. “We must strengthen and expand our services for treating CKD,” he added emphatically.

This isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about lives. Each kidney patient waiting for treatment reflects the urgency behind this initiative.

Commitment to Progress

The vision for a state-of-the-art facility is not just a dream. Secretary Vince Dizon from the Department of Public Works and Highways shared the timeline, stating the construction began in 2023 and will be completed by the end of 2027. “Initially delayed due to funding issues,” he explained, “we are now committed to securing the total budget of P2.8 billion needed for this project.”

It’s a powerful promise: by December 2027, the NKTI Legacy Building will not only be a symbol of health care advancement but will also be equipped to cater to over 200 dialysis patients at the same time. That’s more than double the current capacity—a staggering leap towards better patient care.

A Comprehensive Healthcare Facility

This 13-storey structure is designed to be a one-stop healthcare hub. Imagine walking through its doors and finding everything you need: operating rooms, laboratories, pharmacies, and training facilities all dedicated to dialysis and transplant programs.

The NKTI Legacy Building aims to house 200 hemodialysis machines. This means more people will get the treatment they desperately need, expanding access to vital renal healthcare services. It’s about compassion, innovation, and healing.

Conclusion

As we look toward the future, the NKTI Legacy Building stands as a testament to the Filipino spirit—a narrative woven with hope, care, and resilience. President Marcos’s dedication underscores the importance of advancing healthcare for all Filipinos. We are witnessing the blueprint of a brighter, healthier tomorrow for our communities.

In the years to come, every time a patient walks through those doors, they won’t just be entering a facility—they’ll be stepping into a new era of health and healing. The NKTI Legacy Building is not just a building; it’s a lifeline, and it starts with a promise: to care for our people.
