Marcos Calls for Urgent Action on Mayon Ash Fallout!

Urgent Relief Efforts in Albay: Communities Unite Amid Mayon Volcano’s Fury

In a show of compassion and swift action, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered immediate assistance for communities affected by the unrest of Mayon Volcano, with a focus on the towns of Guinobatan and Camalig in Albay. This directive comes as a much-needed lifeline for residents grappling with the realities of nature’s power.

The Presidential Palace conveyed in a statement that response operations are now in full swing, prioritizing public health and safety while ensuring that essential services and roads remain accessible. The urgency of the situation is palpable as local authorities, led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), work tirelessly to clear ash from major roads. After all, as DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon observed during his visit, “We have to remove it because if you just put it to the side, it will harden and stay there.” His words resonate deeply with the ongoing effort to restore normalcy in the area.

To further support those impacted, the Department of Health has stepped up to distribute N95 masks, a crucial tool for respiratory protection, and has deployed mobile clinics to assist those struggling with breathing issues. Additionally, water stations have been established to ensure access to clean drinking water, an essential need during this challenging time.

The Bureau of Fire Protection has also issued a rallying cry, conducting water-spraying and ash-clearing operations to ease the burden on local communities. Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council are keeping a vigilant eye on the situation, especially for residents in high-risk zones.

In a heartfelt gesture, the Department of Social Welfare and Development is busy distributing food and essential supplies to families in evacuation centers. Over 300,000 food packs have been readied for distribution across the Bicol Region—an impressive effort to bring comfort in the face of adversity.

As volunteers and agencies unite, President Marcos has urged vigilance among the residents. “Stay indoors as much as possible, wear protective masks, and follow safety advisories from local officials,” he emphasized. The call for caution carries weight, especially as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported intensified volcanic activity, with lava flows and volcanic earthquakes marking the region.

The situation remains tense, with Alert Level 3 still enforced following recent ashfall across parts of Albay. Yet amid the uncertainty and fear, a spirit of resilience shines brightly within the communities. As they face this natural challenge together, the solidarity and strength of the people are undeniable reminders of the human spirit’s capacity to endure.

In these trying times, let us come together to support one another. With unwavering determination, we have faith that compassion and community will light the path forward for those affected by Mayon Volcano’s wrath.
