MANILA, Philippines — Big changes are happening at the Commission on Elections (Comelec)! President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially appointed a long-time Comelec insider to fill one of the two empty commissioner seats after the recent retirement of Commissioners Socorro Inteng and Marlon Casquejo earlier this month.
The newest commissioner is Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal, a dedicated Comelec official who has been serving the agency for over 25 years. She previously led the Comelec’s law department, making her a highly experienced choice for this important role.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia confirmed the appointment on Monday and shared that Casingal took her oath of office that same day.
“We are happy to welcome Commissioner Norie,” Garcia said. “She officially starts her work today in her new role.”
Casingal’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and expertise to the poll body, especially with major elections on the horizon. Her deep knowledge of election laws and procedures will play a key role in ensuring fair and transparent elections in the country.
