Makabayan to Duterte: Stop the Show, Face Drug War Victims

Opposition lawmakers Raoul Manuel, Arlene Brosas, and France Castro are calling out former President Duterte for trying to steal the spotlight from a Mass dedicated to the victims of his war on drugs. Duterte planned to visit the House of Representatives on Wednesday, despite knowing that the hearing on the drug war was postponed. They accused him of making a serious investigation into a “circus” and a publicity stunt, urging him to face the victims and answer for the violence during his presidency.

Brosas said Duterte should not disrupt the important Mass, meant to help heal the families of the drug war victims. Castro added that the public is no longer fooled by Duterte’s showmanship and wants him to take responsibility for the harm caused during his time in office. Manuel also pointed out that Duterte is at the center of the bloody war on drugs and should face the investigations instead of trying to avoid them.

Despite Duterte’s claims, he is under increasing pressure to answer for his actions and policies that led to the deaths of many innocent people, with evidence of police being rewarded for killing drug suspects. The investigation into his role in the war on drugs is ongoing, with a postponed hearing now set for November 21.
