MANILA, Philippines — Something big is happening in the government, and it sounds like a serious argument!
Senator Chiz Escudero, who is like the class president of all the senators, said “no” to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. when the President offered to help solve the fight between the Senate and the House of Representatives. What are they fighting about? Whether or not Vice President Sara Duterte should be removed from her job — it’s called an “impeachment trial.”
President Marcos thought maybe he could help the two sides talk it out and stop the argument. But Senator Escudero said, “No thank you, Mr. President. We can handle this ourselves.”
Escudero explained that this trial must be open for everyone to see — no hiding behind closed doors. He wants it to happen in the Senate, where people can watch and understand what’s going on. That way, everything is fair, and the public knows the truth. “We need to be honest and let everyone see what’s happening,” he said. “That’s what being transparent means.”
He also said they shouldn’t talk about the case on Facebook or just through random news stories. Everything should go through official papers and court discussions — kind of like handing in a school assignment the right way.
Escudero reminded the House of Representatives (that’s the other group of lawmakers) of the rules: “You guys are the prosecutors, and we in the Senate are the judges. You bring the case, and we take over from there. That’s how it works.”
So, for now, the drama continues… and Senator Escudero wants to make sure everyone plays by the rules, out in the open, with no secret meetings.
