Driver who pulled out gun on cyclist in viral video surrenders

The car driver who allegedly brandished a gun at a cyclist surrendered to authorities, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III announced Sunday.

The QCPD head was referring to the motorist who apparently cursed at, hurt, and pointed a gun at a cyclist, after the latter hit the driver’s red car with his bicycle.

“Sa loob ng… 30 minutes ay nakuha natin ‘yung tao, napa-surrender natin. Sa ngayon ay iniimbestigahan natin, nandoon sa anti-carnapping unit dahil kailangan i-verify ang plate number,” Torre said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.

(Within 30 minutes we got the person, and he surrendered. Right now we are investigating and he is at the anti-carnapping unit because his plate number needs to be verified.)

The QCPD earlier called on the driver to surrender to the nearest police station after the video of the August 8 incident went viral on social media.

Torre said that the driver also surrendered his gun and car which were taken into custody by the authorities.

“Sigurado tayo dito na ma-revoke natin ang kanyang LTOPF (License To Own and Possess Firearm). Bahala na ang ang HPG (Highway Patrol Group) kung i-reinstate uit ang kanyang LTOPF,” he added.

(We’re sure that his LTOPF will be revoked. It is up to the HPG if his LTOPF will be reinstated.)

Should the cyclist file a complaint, the driver may face cases related to light or grave threats and firearm possession, Torre said.

Meanwhile, the driver, identified by a Sunday 24 Oras Weekend report as Wilfredo Gonzales, said that he and the cyclist had settled the matter and had come to an agreement.

Gonzales added that he was the one who brought the matter to the police.
