34 OFWs from Saudi Arabia Arrive in PH on October 19!

Homeward Bound: 34 OFWs Return to the Philippines Amid Challenges

In a heartwarming turn of events, thirty-four Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are finally making their way back to the Philippines this coming Monday, October 19. Their journey began in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where they boarded a flight to Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, filled with a mix of excitement and anxiety.

As they prepare to land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, the emotions run high. OWWA Administrator PY Caunan reassures them that they will be met by the dedicated team of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)’s Repatriation and Assistance Division (RAD). These caring representatives will be there to provide airport assistance, transport, temporary accommodations if needed, and domestic airline tickets for those continuing their journeys back to their home provinces.

“Pagdating sa Maynila, sasalubungin sila ng OWWA Repatriation and Assistance Division (RAD),” Caunan said. Her words carry warmth and hope, as she emphasizes the support awaiting the workers. “As part of the Alagang OWWA program, we ensure that our workers are not alone. They will receive temporary housing, meals, transportation, and tickets to bring them back home safely,” she added.

But the return of these workers is just the beginning. OWWA has announced that an additional 249 OFWs are set to arrive in the Philippines between October 19 and 25. Behind the scenes, arrangements are being made for yet another 100 OFWs to return from Saudi Arabia.

Among those receiving assistance are workers from Bahay Kalinga, individuals under the care of various Saudi recruitment agencies, and those temporarily residing in hotels after their flights were abruptly canceled or delayed. These disruptions stemmed from the recent incidents at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, rooted in escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The situation has not been easy. Airlines, including Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific, have suspended flights to and from Riyadh until late 2026 due to safety concerns. Earlier this month, the airport itself faced two attacks, leaving at least four Filipino individuals injured.

In light of these challenges, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah have urged all Filipinos in the area to stay vigilant and prioritize their safety.

As the 34 OFWs prepare for their homecoming, we can only imagine the relief and joy they will feel when they reunite with their loved ones. Every step they take toward home is filled with hope and a longing for the warmth of familiar embraces.

Let us stand with these brave workers as they journey back, knowing their stories of resilience and sacrifice move us all. Welcome home, heroes!
