6 OFWs Flee Iran Chaos—What Awaits Them in PH Now?

Manila, Philippines — June 28, Saturday Morning

Six brave Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were in Iran, a country currently having big problems with Israel, are now safe and back in the Philippines, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced.

✈️ Who are they?

Five of them worked in shrimp hatcheries (that’s where baby shrimps are raised). The sixth OFW was a housemaid from Dubai, who just happened to visit Iran with her boss on a vacation—but got caught in the chaos!

🛬 Where did they land?

They arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City, very early Saturday morning, flying in from Emirates Airlines.

🧡 Who welcomed them?

They were warmly welcomed at the airport by:

  • Patricia Yvonne Caunan from OWWA (helps OFWs)

  • Eduardo de Vega from the Department of Foreign Affairs

  • Venecio Legaspi from the DMW
    Also there were:

  • A medical team to check their health

  • A social worker to support them emotionally

🏨 Where will they stay?

The government gave them free hotel rooms to rest, plus plane tickets to go back to their home provinces in the Philippines.

🇮🇷 How did this rescue happen?

This was made possible through:

  • The Philippine Embassy in Iran, led by Ambassador Roberto Manalo

  • Help from the DMW and OWWA

They worked fast to get these OFWs out safely.

👥 More coming soon!

The DMW also said that 2 more OFWs from Iran were expected to arrive Saturday night.

This is the first batch of Filipinos brought home since June 13, when the Israel-Iran conflict started again.

🇵🇭 President Marcos Says: We’re Working Fast!

President Bongbong Marcos Jr. gave orders to make sure all Filipinos who want to come home from dangerous places like Iran and Israel are brought back safely.

“We’re already working on over 200 repatriation requests,” Marcos said.
“If you’re a Filipino in Iran or Israel, please talk to our embassies. Tell them what’s happening, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”

🚨 What’s going on in Iran and Israel?

A lot of scary things are happening:

  • On June 13, Israel launched missiles at Iran’s nuclear sites.

  • Iran got mad and fired back with missiles of their own.

  • Then the US bombed Iran’s military bases on June 21.

  • Iran responded again by hitting a US base in Qatar on June 23.

  • Finally, a ceasefire (a promise to stop fighting) was announced by US President Donald Trump.

Because of this, the Philippine government raised a “Crisis Alert Level 3” in both Iran and Israel on June 20. This means:

Filipinos there are strongly advised to come home before things get worse.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 How many Filipinos are there?

  • Around 30,000 Filipinos (mostly caregivers) are in Israel.

  • Over 1,000 Filipinos are in Iran.

The government is now moving fast to bring them all home safely, one flight at a time.

Stay safe, kababayans! The Philippines is ready to welcome you back with open arms.
