A Once-in-a-Lifetime Journey: Sparkle Artists Shine in Acting Workshop with Melissa Leo
In a remarkable fusion of talent and opportunity, several Sparkle artists have stepped into an inspiring acting workshop led by none other than Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo. Among the lucky 22 young stars invited to this exceptional experience were Zonia Mejia, Rein Hillary, Patria Coma, Dom Pangilinan, and Gelly Bea, all chosen by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
Zonia was effusive about the chance to work with such an accomplished figure in the industry. “This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” she told GMA News Online, her voice brimming with excitement. “It’s an honor to be part of this big workshop. I knew right from the start that I had to soak in everything I could. Being here now, learning so much from Miss Melissa and my fellow actors, is a dream come true.”
Her enthusiasm is palpable. Picture Zonia’s eyes lighting up as she shares, “It’s a big, big pleasure to meet her and learn from everyone around me. This experience is teaching me so much!”

You don’t really disappear into a role. Everything, from the characters to the people you work with, becomes a part of you.”

Titled “Acting for the Screen and Set,” the workshop is a rich exploration of the craft of screen acting, focusing on creating truly effective performances for both film and television.
Melissa Leo, guiding these talented individuals, admitted she felt a wave of nerves stepping into the Philippines for the first time. But those jitters melted away when she witnessed the passion and dedication of her young participants. “So beautiful,” she remarked, her admiration evident. “They’ve been receptive, curious, and so willing to absorb everything I’ve shared. Each day here, I see them grow.”
In a lighthearted moment, Melissa playfully wished she could take all 22 of them back to Hollywood with her. “But,” she laughed, “they’re better off here at home, and I truly believe they will have beautiful careers. I hope to see them on screen someday!”
