Elon Musk, the very rich and famous man who started Tesla and SpaceX, was working with the U.S. government to help make it run better and smaller. But now, he is leaving that job.
A person from the White House said that Elon Musk will stop working with the government soon. Elon shared this news himself on a social media site called X.
He worked for about 130 days helping a special team called DOGE (which stands for Department of Government Efficiency). Their job was to make the government smaller and work faster by cutting down the number of workers.
Because of this, the government has let go of about 260,000 workers out of 2.3 million. They did this by offering people chances to retire early or leave, and sometimes by telling workers they might be fired.
Even though Elon Musk is leaving, the government says this plan to be more efficient will keep going.
Elon also said he was unhappy with a new spending plan made by some politicians. He thought it would make the government spend too much money and create more debt instead of saving money.
Some people didn’t like that Elon was helping the government while also running his own big companies like Tesla. Some even protested and told him to quit the government job and focus on Tesla.
Elon said he wanted to help the government even though he was never elected. The President, Donald Trump, gave him special powers to try to fix things.
Now, Elon is done with his government job and will focus on other things.
