There’s a lot of drama happening in the government right now—and at the center of it all is Vice President Sara Duterte. She’s in big trouble because of an impeachment case filed against her. But on Monday, she decided to fight back.
What did VP Sara do?
VP Sara officially sent a 35-page answer to the Senate impeachment court. In that document, she asked the court to throw out the complaint against her. Her reason? She said the complaint is illegal because it broke a very important rule in the Constitution.
What rule was broken?
According to the 1987 Constitution, only one impeachment complaint can be filed against an official every year. But this is already the fourth one filed against her! That’s why VP Sara’s lawyers say it’s “void from the start” and shouldn’t be allowed at all.
When and how was the answer submitted?
-
A messenger from her law firm carried boxes of the answer to the Senate at 5:49 PM.
-
The House of Representatives also got their copy at 3:53 PM, confirmed by Atty. Princess Abante.
-
Now, House prosecutors have until June 30 to respond.
Why is she being impeached?
It all started with a big controversy over ₱612 million in confidential funds. That’s a LOT of money. Reports say the money may have been misused, based on documents from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) while VP Sara was in charge.
Here’s what investigators found:
-
Receipts with wrong dates
-
Signatures of people who don’t exist or have no birth records
-
Some signatures were unreadable or had no names
These mistakes made many lawmakers think something suspicious was going on.
How many complaints were filed?
Originally, there were three impeachment complaints, but those were not processed properly. So, a fourth complaint was filed in February, and this one was endorsed by over 200 lawmakers—way more than the number needed to push it straight to the Senate for trial.
This fourth complaint accused VP Sara of:
-
Betrayal of public trust
-
Violating the Constitution
-
Graft and corruption
-
And even threatening to harm the President, First Lady Liza, and House Speaker Romualdez 😱
What happens next?
Even though VP Sara already gave her answer, the drama isn’t over yet. The Senate voted to send the case back to the House of Representatives—but they didn’t cancel it. Now, everyone is waiting to see if the House prosecutors will fight back or if the complaint will be dropped.
So… will VP Sara get out of this?
That’s the big question! With powerful accusations, political tension, and legal battles, the country is watching closely. Will the impeachment move forward? Or will VP Sara walk free?
Stay tuned. The next few days could change everything.
