VP Duterte Fights Back: Takes Impeachment to Supreme Court!

MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte is not giving up! She has officially asked the Supreme Court to cancel the impeachment case against her. This is her first big legal move to defend herself from being removed from office and banned forever from working in the government.

Why Was She Impeached?

On February 5, lawmakers in the House of Representatives voted to impeach Duterte. This means they are trying to remove her from office because they believe she did something wrong. The accusations against her include:
🔹 Misusing government money (budget anomalies)
🔹 Getting too rich too fast (unexplained wealth)
🔹 Allegedly making threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez

Duterte Says It’s All Politics

Sara Duterte, who is the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, says she did nothing wrong. She believes this impeachment is just a political attack because of her ongoing conflict with President Marcos.

Her Appeal to the Supreme Court

Duterte argues that the House of Representatives broke the rules by allowing more than one impeachment attempt in a year. She said this was done on purpose to make sure she could never run for president in the future.

She asked the Supreme Court to stop the Senate (the upper house of Congress) from moving forward with the impeachment trial, which might begin in June after the May elections.

What Happens Next?

If the Senate finds her guilty, Duterte will be removed from office and will never be allowed to run for any government position again—meaning her dream of becoming president in 2028 would be over.

So far, House Speaker Martin Romualdez has not responded to Duterte’s appeal. However, House leaders say Duterte is just trying to escape punishment and avoid answering for her actions.

Now, all eyes are on the Supreme Court and Senate to see what happens next in this high-stakes political battle!
