Urgent: Search for Missing Filipino Doctor in Nepal Flood

The Ongoing Search for Dr. Juan Carlos Manalo: A Community United in Hope

NEW DELHI – Heartfelt pleas and deep concern fill the air as the search continues for Dr. Juan Carlos Manalo, a dedicated Filipino physician who has gone missing amid the catastrophic flash floods in Nepal. Philippine Ambassador to India, Josel Ignacio, addressed reporters at a recent news briefing, sharing updates on the efforts to locate Manalo and the support being offered to his family during this harrowing time.

Dr. Manalo’s family and friends are grappling with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty. As the ambassador emphasized, the Philippine embassy and the honorary consulate in Nepal are standing firm in their commitment to assist the Manalo family. “We are in direct communication with the Nepalese government and the search responders, ensuring that we are doing everything we can to find him,” Ignacio reassured.

At just 30 years old, Dr. Manalo is more than a physician. Hailing from Tarlac City, he was in Nepal for a pilgrimage when tragedy struck at the Nepal-China border. His sister, Chiara Manalo, shared a glimpse into her brother’s life—an individual not only committed to medicine but also deeply passionate about yoga and spirituality.

Graduating from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in 2021, Dr. Manalo was known for his dedication, having practiced as a general physician and previously working diligently at the dialysis center in Tarlac Provincial Hospital. Chiara painted a vivid picture of her brother’s character, describing him as someone who has immersed himself in yoga and inner engineering for years, further deepening his connection with the Isha Sadhguru community. His journey took him to India for a lengthy retreat and later, to Nepal for the Kailashyatra pilgrimage in August.

The situation is heart-rending, calling for prayers and solidarity. “We are in close contact with the family,” Ignacio mentioned, highlighting that the Nepalese government is also reaching out for DNA information from relatives of the missing, a somber step in this grueling process.

As the search continues, the spirit of hope shines brightly through the clouds of despair. The Manalo family is not alone; a community stands united, ready to support them in their time of need.

In moments like these, we are reminded of our shared humanity and the power of compassion. Our thoughts remain with Dr. Juan Carlos Manalo, as we all hope for his safe return.
