Suitcase with P20 million worth of jewelry left behind at NAIA, taken away

A suitcase containing jewelry and bags worth about P20 million has not yet been located after its owner accidentally left it behind at NAIA, according to a 24 Oras report by Maki Pulido on Wednesday.

CCTV footage from October 1 at around 8 p.m. shows businesswoman Maricor Flores leaving the suitcase behind as she got into her vehicle at the NAIA Terminal 3 arrival area, believing that her driver had already taken it and put it in the car.

“Natuklasan na lang po nila na wala ito nung nasa bahay na sila,” said Airport Intelligence and Investigation Division manager Levy Rubano Jose.

The footage shows a man later approaching the suitcase and taking it away on a luggage trolley. He has not yet been located or identified.

“Wala pong sindikato, wala pong ganun. Isolated case. Alam niyo naman ang magnanakaw, ang hanap niyan opportunity lang,” said Jose.

Airport management reminded the public to be watchful over their belongings at the airport.

“Pag naiwan po ‘yan, may oportunidad ang tao. Pwede makuha, may intensyon man sila o wala,” Jose said. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News
