Signal No. 1 up in Luzon, Visayas as Severe Tropical Storm ‘Egay’ gains strength

SEVERAL areas in Luzon and Visayas have been placed under Signal No. 1 as Severe Tropical Storm Egay intensified while moving west-northwest, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.

Areas in Luzon under Signal No. 1 include Catanduanes, the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Garchitorena, Caramoan and Presentacion), northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dilasag), eastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue, Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Tumauini, San Pablo and Cabagan) and eastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao and Pe?ablanca).

Also under the same storm alert are the northern portion of Eastern Samar (San Policarpo, Oras, Arteche and Jipapad) and the eastern portion of Northern Samar (Lapinig, Gamay, Mapanas, Palapag, Laoang, Catubigin and Pambujan) in Visayas.

The weather agency said the center of “Egay” was estimated 560 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

It has maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

The weather agency said a landfall in extreme Northern Luzon.

Pagasa said that “Egay” will likely reach typhoon category within 24 hours and may become a super typhoon on Tuesday.
