Russia Sends Biggest Airstrike Yet—12 Lives Lost in Ukraine

A very big and sad thing just happened in Ukraine, and many world leaders are talking about it.

Over the weekend, Russia sent over 360 flying weapons (called drones and missiles) into Ukraine. These weapons hit many cities—including the capital, Kyiv—in what is now the largest air attack since the war began.

💔 People Got Hurt—and Lives Were Lost

  • 12 people were killed, including 3 children, said Ukrainian leaders.

  • Many others were injured, and some buildings, homes, and apartments were badly damaged.

  • Cities like Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Ternopil were also hit hard.

  • In Kyiv, 11 people were hurt in drone attacks, but thankfully no one there died.

🇺🇸 What Did U.S. President Donald Trump Say?

U.S. President Donald Trump said he is not happy with Russia’s actions. When asked by reporters if he might add new punishments (called sanctions) against Russia, he said, “Absolutely.”

“I don’t know what happened to Putin,” Trump said.
“He’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it.”

Trump also said that Russia’s President Putin has gone ‘absolutely crazy’ after seeing the size of the attack.

But Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Zelensky, saying the way he talks causes problems and “it better stop.”

📢 What Ukraine’s President Is Saying

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the U.S. and other countries need to speak up more. He believes that staying quiet only makes Russia bolder.

“Every Russian strike is a reason to punish Russia more,” he said.

Ukraine is asking for stronger support, like more sanctions and help to stop the attacks.

🤝 Peace Talks and a Ceasefire?

Ukraine and its friends in Europe want Russia to agree to a 30-day pause (called a ceasefire) so they can try to make peace. But talks are not going well.

Trump did not add new sanctions after Russia ignored the idea of stopping the war for now.

At the same time, Ukraine and Russia are working on a prisoner exchange. That means both sides are letting go of 1,000 captured soldiers to return home.

💣 More About the Attack

  • Ukraine said Russia launched 298 drones and 69 missiles in total.

  • Ukraine’s air force shot down most of them, but some still got through and caused damage.

  • In Mykolaiv, a 77-year-old man died and five others were hurt after a drone hit a building.

  • In the Khmelnytskyi region, far from the front lines, four people were killed too.

  • In Kharkiv, explosions broke windows in tall buildings, and three people were hurt.

🛡️ What Did Russia Say?

Russia said it was not targeting civilians, and that it was only part of its “special military operation.”

Russia also claimed it stopped 95 Ukrainian drones and blocked 12 more headed to Moscow, their capital city.
