Help on the Way for Filipino Seafarers After Ship Sinks Near India

A big ship that carried goods sank near the southern coast of India, close to a place called Kerala. The ship had 24 crew members on board, and 20 of them are Filipinos—people from the Philippines who work at sea.

Luckily, all 24 crew members were saved and did not get hurt badly. Some were helped by the Indian Coast Guard, and others were rescued by another ship passing by called the MV Han Yi.

The company that hired the Filipino sailors, called the manning agency, said they are working hard to help the sailors. They want to make sure the sailors get:

  • The right medical care if they need it

  • Clothes and other basic things because many sailors had to leave the ship quickly and might not have their personal stuff with them

Right now, the sailors are with the Indian authorities. These officials are checking on them and helping with the next steps.

The manning agency promised to keep helping the sailors during this difficult time.
