MANILA, Philippines — A balloon dragon in Hong Kong recently broke the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Balloon Sculpture of a Dragon,” just in time for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Balloon artist Sze Tai Pang led the creation of the sculpture that is 137 feet long, using more than 38,000 biodegradable rubber balloons.

Pang — a two-time winner of the World Balloon Convention — was assisted by his mentor Kun Lung Ho from Taiwan (who shares the record with Pang), Chinese artist Qu Xusheng, and students from the City University of Hong Kong balloon art club and The Methodist Lee Wai Lee College.

The bestowing of the record comes days before the the global celebration of Lunar New Year, where 2024 is said to be the Year of the Wooden Dragon.

Additionally in the Chinese Zodiac, the dragon is considered to be a symbol of energy and happiness.

The large balloon dragon will be on display in Hong Kong’s tmtplaza until February 18.
