Tragedy Strikes: Filipino Tourists Affected in Munich Bus Crash
In a heartbreaking incident near Munich, Germany, the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) offices in Milan and Frankfurt are working tirelessly to support Filipino passengers and their families involved in a devastating bus crash. The unfortunate event occurred on the A96 federal highway in Buchloe, taking the lives of two individuals and injuring at least 19 others.
A Journey Cut Short
The bus, carrying a group of 33 Filipinos, was on its way from Milan to Munich for Oktoberfest—a trip that should have been filled with joy and celebration. Alas, tragedy struck just 30 minutes from their destination. Among the two deceased, a 58-year-old Filipino national—with permanent residency in Italy—was confirmed one of the victims. He was a well-known figure within the Filipino community in Milan, serving as a former president and current adviser of the Association of Novo Ecijanos in Milan (ANEM).
Zenaida Serna, who is closely connected to the victims, shared the harrowing details. “He was seated by the middle door of the coach with his wife, who was also injured. She was complaining of severe headaches; we fear she might be suffering from complications,” she stated, expressing profound concern for those impacted.
Support and Assistance
As news spread, the children of the deceased were informed and made their way to Frankfurt immediately. The injured were swiftly transported to multiple hospitals across Bavaria, while remaining passengers received help from the Red Cross.
Six individuals were airlifted to emergency clinics, while others were taken by ambulance. Local media reported that some passengers included minors—an added layer of concern that families feared for their children’s well-being.
Zenaida shared, “I was supposed to be on that tour. I signed up first, but had to cancel due to work commitments.” The weight of this tragedy is heavy not only on those directly involved but on the community that supports them.

Official reports state that the accident occurred at 5:41 AM local time when the bus veered off the highway and overturned. Remarkably, no other vehicles were involved, yet the scene saw around 250 emergency personnel rushing to provide aid.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that fatigue may have been a factor; however, it is too premature to draw any conclusions. The police have commissioned an accident reconstruction expert to uncover the truth.
