P800K Fresh Produce from Davao Shipped to Saudi Arabia!

Davao Region’s Bounty Shines Bright in Saudi Arabia

In a heartwarming leap for the Davao Region’s agribusiness, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 11 (DA-RFO 11) has successfully shipped 17.2 metric tons of fresh produce to Saudi Arabia. This remarkable effort, valued at around P800,000, took off on July 24 and represents a significant milestone for our hardworking farmers and exporters.

The shipment was no small feat. Carefully packed in 1,350 boxes, it consisted of the beloved Cardava bananas, sweet potatoes, and jicama (known locally as *singkamas*). These nutritious delights were exported by Gerb Golden Hands Corp. of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, and are destined for Rana Mohammed Saleem Commercial LLC in Jeddah.

“This shipment proves that our participation in international trade fairs is about more than just promotion. It’s about creating real opportunities for our farmers,” said DA Regional Executive Director Macario Gonzaga, his voice filled with pride.

Each successful shipment enhances the Davao Region’s reputation as a reliable source of premium agricultural products. It opens doors to sustained export opportunities, a beacon of hope for many.

The roots of this export deal can be traced back to the AGRA Middle East Exhibition 2024 held in Dubai, where connections were made and dreams were nurtured. The Department of Agriculture is committed to expanding overseas markets for Philippine agricultural products, ensuring that farmers get the recognition—and rewards—they deserve.

“Every new export market we open is a chance for Filipino farmers to earn more from their hard work. It keeps the value in our country, rather than letting it benefit producers abroad,” stressed Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.

The impact of this endeavor stretches far beyond profits. Expanding agricultural exports helps narrow our trade deficit and encourages investments in modern farming techniques and efficient logistics. It also generates jobs in rural communities, fostering economic growth that can last a lifetime.

This shipment is a triumph, not just for the DA, but for every farmer and every worker in the agricultural sector. It’s a testament to their resilience and commitment to excellence. In collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, the goal is clear: transform our agricultural and fishery products into globally recognized premium brands.

As we celebrate this achievement, let’s remember: each box shipped represents dreams, hard work, and the rich bounty of the Davao Region. Here’s to many more successful exports in the future!
