Over 40 Filipinos Return from Israel—Here’s What Happened

More than 40 Filipinos have returned safely to the Philippines from Israel as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that these Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were repatriated to ensure their safety.

✈ Who Were the Repatriated Filipinos?

A total of 44 Filipinos arrived back home on Friday afternoon at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). They were welcomed by officials from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Here’s the breakdown of the returning Filipinos:
36 were female OFWs
6 were male OFWs
2 were dependents (family members)

💰 What Help Did They Receive?

As soon as they landed in the Philippines, the returning OFWs were given immediate financial assistance under the AKSYON Fund from the DMW. They also received livelihood assistance from OWWA to help them start fresh.

🌍 Why Are Filipinos Leaving Israel?

On October 7, 2024, violence erupted between Israel and Hamas after Hamas launched deadly attacks on southern Israel. According to Reuters, the attack resulted in 1,200 deaths in Israel and saw 251 hostages taken into Gaza. In response, Israel launched airstrikes, killing over 48,000 Palestinians and displacing nearly 2.3 million people, leaving Gaza devastated.

With the conflict worsening, many Filipino workers in Israel have chosen to return home for their safety. The Philippine government continues to assist more OFWs who wish to leave the region.

🚨 What’s Happening in Gaza Now?

Recently, Israel blocked the entry of aid trucks into Gaza as a standoff over the truce escalated. Hamas has called on Egyptian and Qatari mediators to help ease tensions.

🇵🇭 What’s Next?

The Philippine government is closely monitoring the situation and preparing more repatriation efforts for Filipinos in affected areas. Meanwhile, returning OFWs are being assisted with financial support, job opportunities, and reintegration programs to help them rebuild their lives.
