Good news for people flying in and out of the Philippines! The Ninoy Aquino International Airport, or NAIA, will soon start using a new technology called facial recognition. This cool technology will help travelers move through the airport faster and easier.
What is Facial Recognition?
Facial recognition means that instead of showing your passport or ID card every time you go through airport security or check-in, the machines will scan your face. Your face will act like your ID! This means less time waiting and fewer things to carry around.
What Did President Marcos Say?
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited NAIA Terminal 3 and talked about this new technology. He said,
“We want to make things easy and quick for travelers. Soon, you won’t need to show your passport or ID. Your face will be enough!”
Isn’t that amazing? It will make traveling smoother for everyone.
What Other Airport Improvements Are Coming?
During his visit, the President also checked out other new facilities made to help travelers, especially Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). These include:
-
A special Immigration Annex just for OFWs
-
A comfy lounge and rest area for OFWs to relax
-
A special zone for transport vehicles like taxis and ride-sharing cars
-
A new area for arrivals to make things easier when people get off their flights
Why Is This Technology Important?
NAIA wants to use the best technology to help everyone—OFWs, tourists, and local passengers—move in and out of the airport more quickly and safely. This means shorter lines and less hassle.
When Will This Start?
Ramon Ang, the chairman of the NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC), said that the facial recognition technology might be installed within the next six months.
Also, NAIA is getting bigger! When Terminal 5 opens in 2026, the airport will be able to serve up to 35 million passengers a year along with Terminal 2. That’s a lot of people flying in and out!
What Does This Mean for You?
If you’re traveling soon, you might soon just need to smile at a camera to prove who you are. No more digging for your passport or ID every time! This will save time and make your airport experience much easier and more fun.
