The Philippines needs new ideas and smart strategies to keep its military strong and ready for any challenge, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Thursday.
He shared this message while leading a special ceremony where newly promoted generals and top military officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) took their oath. Graduates from the Foreign Pre-Commission Training Institutions (FPCTI) also attended the event.
New Skills for a Stronger Military
Marcos emphasized how important it is for the country’s military leaders to learn from experiences abroad. He said their training, discipline, and new strategies will make the Philippines’ defense forces even more powerful, especially now that the world is facing unpredictable situations.
“Our country is counting on you to bring in fresh ideas to make our military defense stronger and to improve teamwork with other countries,” he said.
Facing Challenges with Agility & Courage
The president pointed out that the world today is different from before, and the Philippines must be quick to adapt.
“We have to be innovative, think ahead, and be fast. But one thing will never change—our need for courage. We must have the courage to respond, to adjust, and to protect our country,” Marcos explained.
Teamwork with Other Countries
Marcos also highlighted the country’s latest efforts in working with other nations. He mentioned that the Philippines recently joined Canada and the United States for the 7th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA), a training exercise where the three countries worked together to strengthen regional security.
“This shows that we are serious about protecting our country and keeping peace in the region,” he said.
According to AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr., this joint military exercise proves that the Philippines, the U.S., and Canada are committed to keeping the Indo-Pacific region free and open for all.
Military Forces in Action
As part of the training, different military forces from each country operated together. The Philippines sent its naval ship BRP Andres Bonifacio, a Beechcraft King Air C90 aircraft, and Philippine Air Force Search and Rescue assets. Meanwhile, Canada sent its warship, HMCS Ottawa (FFH341).
This military cooperation helps strengthen relationships between the Philippines and its allies while ensuring that the country’s defense forces are always ready for any challenge that may come.
