March 6, 2025: How Major Currencies Stack Up Against the Peso

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) just released the latest exchange rates, showing how much the Philippine Peso (PHP) is worth compared to the top currencies in the world. Let’s break it down in simple terms so even a 4th grader can understand!

💰 What’s Happening with Currencies Today?

When you exchange money, the amount you get changes daily because of the foreign exchange market—kind of like how the prices of toys or food go up and down. If a currency is stronger, you’ll need more pesos to buy it. If it’s weaker, you’ll need fewer pesos.

Here’s how the top 10 currencies compare to the Philippine Peso today!

🌎 TOP 10 CURRENCIES & HOW THEY COMPARE TO THE PESO

1️⃣ United States Dollar (USD) – 💵

  • $1 = PHP 57.50
  • The U.S. dollar is still the strongest and most used currency in the world. When its value goes up, imported goods (like gadgets from the U.S.) become more expensive in the Philippines.

2️⃣ Japanese Yen (JPY) – 💴

  • ¥1 = PHP 0.39
  • The Yen is much weaker compared to the Peso, meaning if you exchange ₱100, you’ll get a lot of Yen! This is great for Filipinos traveling to Japan.

3️⃣ British Pound (GBP) – 💷

  • £1 = PHP 74.15
  • The British Pound is one of the strongest currencies, even higher than the U.S. dollar! If you’re buying something from the UK, it will be more expensive compared to American goods.

4️⃣ Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) – 💲

  • HK$1 = PHP 7.40
  • Many Filipinos work in Hong Kong, so when the Hong Kong Dollar is strong, it’s good for OFWs sending money home.

5️⃣ Swiss Franc (CHF) – 🇨🇭

  • CHF 1 = PHP 64.56
  • Switzerland’s currency is known for being very stable. A high Swiss Franc means that imported luxury goods (like Swiss watches) will be more expensive in the Philippines.

6️⃣ Canadian Dollar (CAD) – 🇨🇦

  • CAD 1 = PHP 40.10
  • A strong Canadian Dollar is good for Filipinos working in Canada. It means their remittances will be worth more pesos back home.

7️⃣ Singapore Dollar (SGD) – 🇸🇬

  • SGD 1 = PHP 43.20
  • Singapore is a major business hub. A strong Singapore Dollar means traveling or shopping there will be expensive for Filipinos.

8️⃣ Australian Dollar (AUD) – 🇦🇺

  • AUD 1 = PHP 36.42
  • Many Filipinos study and work in Australia. If the Australian Dollar is high, Filipino families receive more pesos from relatives working there.

9️⃣ Bahrain Dinar (BHD) – 🇧🇭

  • BHD 1 = PHP 152.57
  • This is one of the most valuable currencies! If you work in Bahrain, sending money to the Philippines will go a long way because 1 Dinar is worth over 150 pesos!

🔟 Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD) – 🇰🇼

  • ❌ No data available today, but the Kuwaiti Dinar is usually the highest-valued currency in the world. One Kuwaiti Dinar is often worth more than PHP 180!

📈 What This Means for Filipinos

1️⃣ 💸 OFWs Sending Money Home:

  • If you work in the U.S., UK, Canada, Singapore, or Australia, and their currency is strong, your family in the Philippines gets more pesos when you send money!

2️⃣ ✈️ Traveling Abroad:

  • If you’re traveling to Japan or Hong Kong, your pesos will go further because their currency is weaker. But if you’re going to the UK or Switzerland, prepare for higher expenses.

3️⃣ 🛍️ Imported Goods & Shopping:

  • If the U.S. Dollar goes up, expect imported gadgets (like iPhones) and other goods to cost more in the Philippines.

4️⃣ 📉 Peso Value & Economy:

  • When the Peso weakens, the cost of gas, food, and other imported products gets higher. If the Peso strengthens, things become cheaper for Filipinos.

🏦 BSP Rates Today:

  • Buying rate: ₱57.10
  • Selling rate: ₱57.60
  • Reference rate: ₱57.35

💰 Gold Price: $2,918.30 per ounce
🥈 Silver Price: $32.60 per ounce

🔍 Final Thoughts

The exchange rate affects everyone—from OFWs and businesses to travelers and shoppers. Keeping track of currency values helps Filipinos make better financial decisions.
