From Barista to Stardom: Fonzi’s Journey of Unexpected Twists
In a recent episode of the heartfelt video podcast “Your Honor,” content creator Fonzi opened up about a life-changing chapter he never saw coming. It’s a story that tugs at the heartstrings and reminds us of the beauty of unexpected turns in life, thanks to the legendary Kris Aquino, often referred to as the “Queen of All Media.”
Picture this: a time when Fonzi found himself without a job and no money to his name. The weight of uncertainty hung heavy on his shoulders. He had his sights set on working as a barista in vibrant Singapore, but just when hope sparkled, the person who promised to help him vanished into thin air. “Ang lungkot lang kasi ito ‘yung inaasahan ko at alam na ng mga kaibigan ko magtatrabaho ako sa Singapore,” he reminisced, with a tone that echoed disappointment and longing.
In a moment of boredom and perhaps desperation, he turned to humor and created a meme about Madam Kris. Little did he know, this meme would change everything. It went viral on Facebook and soon caught the attention of the very woman he was poking fun at. “Nakita niya, tas minessage niya ‘ko, in-offer-an niya ‘ko ng trabaho,” Fonzi recalled, still amazed by the twist of fate.
That is when Kris, with her unique flair, reached out and said, “If ever you needed a job…” How incredible is that? Here was a simple probinsyano, a man with a deep love for the arts, receiving an opportunity from one of the biggest stars in the Philippines.
Fonzi’s journey took flight as he started as a production assistant and quickly climbed the ranks to become a junior producer for Kris’ vlogs—a position he held for three fulfilling years. “Best job apart from being a content creator and artista,” he reflected, his eyes shining with gratitude. “Nung umalis na ‘ko kay madam, dun ko na-realize, grabe pala sa production namin, ang suwerte-suwerte namin,” he added, a hint of awe in his voice.
Among his favorite memories? The time he was interviewed by Kris on camera. “Pagpasok na pagpasok ko, sabi niya, ‘Ang kapal talaga ng foundation mo,’” he laughed, remembering how the comment didn’t sting but rather felt like a playful nudge of endearment. In a spirit of mentorship, Kris even had her makeup artist teach him about his right shade and generously gave him money to buy makeup. What a beautiful moment of care!
Now, Fonzi is making waves in the GMA Afternoon Prime series, “House of Lies,” alongside a talented cast. Tune in weekdays at 4:05 p.m. after “House of Lies,” and catch a glimpse of the star that soared from the depths of uncertainty to share his light on screen.
