A Tragic Incident: Filipinos Targeted in a Suspected Hate Crime in the UK
In a heartbreaking report, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced on Wednesday that three Filipinos fell victim to a shocking attack in the United Kingdom. This incident, which occurred in Southwest England on July 31, is being investigated as a suspected hate crime.
According to the DMW, the police are currently working tirelessly on the case. “The investigation is ongoing and is being treated as a suspected hate crime against the three seafarers who suffered injuries,” they stated. Tragically, one of the victims is in critical condition, fighting for his life in intensive care, while the other two endured minor injuries.
The DMW’s London office has stepped up, extending support and assistance to the victims, and will remain closely connected to the situation as it unfolds. The attack took place in Avonmouth, where these Filipino seafarers were docked.
Local police revealed that there are indications of racist language being hurled during the assault. Avon and Somerset Police Superintendent Deepak Kenth remarked, “We are treating this as a suspected hate crime pending further information.” He also addressed some online speculation, clarifying, “We are aware there is some speculation suggesting the injuries were caused by a knife or a similar weapon, but that is not the case.”
The police have already made arrests, apprehending four individuals: a 19-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy, and a 38-year-old woman, who is suspected of aiding one of the offenders. Despite the gravity of the situation, authorities are treating this as an isolated incident.
