Rome, Italy – The air was electric in the Brunswick Bowling Center as the Filipino Bowlers Association in Italy (FBAI) secured their crown, becoming the overall champions at the 11th World Overseas Filipino Bowling Tour (WOFBT) 2026. This event was much more than just a competition; it was a heartfelt reunion for nearly 150 Filipino bowlers representing eight countries.
This year’s tournament welcomed an impressive array of talent from Filipino bowling organizations in Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Clubs from places as diverse as Italy, London, Belgium, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and New York came together, with 19 men’s teams and 15 women’s teams competing in various formats like singles, doubles, trio, team, masters, and seniors events.
Emotions on the Lanes
Aimee Matias from the Philippine Bowling League (PBL) in New York, who triumphed in the ladies’ masters event, shared a moment that struck a heartfelt chord. “We just love to play, make friends, and be with our fellow Filipinos here in Rome,” she said, her voice filled with emotion. Her husband joined her in celebrating their win, a tribute to their late daughter who passed away last year. “This competition means even more because we’re playing in her honor.”
The spirit of camaraderie shone brightly as 29-year-old men’s masters champion Allen Ragasa from FBAI reflected on the fierce competition. “There are so many talented bowlers from different countries. I prepared really hard for this tournament,” he admitted, showcasing both pride and humility.
Paul Passion of the Mabuhay Strikes Ten-Pin Bowling Club (MSTBC) London echoed a similar sentiment, sharing his appreciation for the connections formed during the tournament. Returning to Rome for the second time, he emphasized that while the thrill of competition is alluring, it’s the friendships that keep him coming back. “I love bowling, but I also love being with the people here. That’s why I keep returning.”
A Historic Tournament
The roots of the World Overseas Filipino Bowling Tour trace back to Dubai in 2014, with its first European participation noted in 2015 when three bowlers from Rome joined the fray. The privilege of hosting was bestowed upon Rome in 2016, and now, a decade later, the city once again embraced this prestigious event.
FBAI President Randy Fermo reflected on the evolution of the tournament, noting its growth as inclusion policies allowed Filipinos of all citizenships to attend. “We’re very thankful that everything went smooth, even if there were jitters at the start,” he said, emphasizing the joy of shared experiences. “Even though everybody wanted to win, the competition was fun for both the winners and those who didn’t take home a trophy.”
Bonds Beyond the Bowls
While bowlers aimed for the coveted Perpetual Trophy, Fermo reminded all that the true victory lay in the friendships forged throughout the week. The tournament encouraged younger participants to join, with Fermo humorously quipping, “Actually, the young players are the power players. We’re already old school.”
Jhoana Lanzo, president of the Mabuhay Bowling Club London, voiced her pride in her club’s legacy of over 30 years, while Melissa Mangcao from Qatar spoke about the importance of their organization coming together despite challenges. Their spirit showcases how the bonds of community can transcend hurdles, reinforcing the joy of shared competition.

The 11th World Overseas Filipino Bowling Tour was about more than just exceptional bowling skills.
