Filipina Moves to Dubai Dreaming of Being a Waitress, Becomes Hotel Director Instead

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Michelle Vista David, a Filipina from Capiz, went to Dubai 19 years ago with a simple dream: to become a waitress. Now, at 41, she’s the Sales and Marketing Director of a four-star hotel, managing a team and overseeing the hotel’s income.

When Michelle first arrived in Dubai at 22, she didn’t get the waitress job she wanted. Instead, she started as a hotel phone operator. Her friendly voice and hard work impressed guests, and in no time, she was promoted to receptionist. From there, her career took off, and she worked her way up to becoming a hotel director.

“I handle all revenue aspects and give the room rates. It’s tough, but I love it,” Michelle shared. She’s responsible for about 60% of the hotel’s income and ensures everything runs smoothly, from customer satisfaction to the hotel’s daily budget.

Michelle’s journey wasn’t easy, but her daughter, Maria Tamirez, is her biggest inspiration. As a single mom, Michelle is determined to give her daughter the best life possible. “I wanted to be a waitress, but now I have so much more. My daughter is my greatest achievement,” she said.

In October 2023, Michelle was crowned Asia’s Most Prolific Director of Sales and Marketing at Asia’s Pinnacle Awards, showing just how far hard work and determination can take you!
