DEPARTMENT of Health (DoH) Officer in Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire led the groundbreaking of the Marinduque Provincial Hospital and highlighted the importance of infrastructure improvement to attain the goals of Universal Health Care.
Vergeire was joined by health officials led by Assistant Secretary Gloria Balboa and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) Center for Health Development chief Dr. Mario Baquilod, while Marinduque officials were led by Gov. Presbitero Velasco Jr. and Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
During the groundbreaking, Vergeire and other officials discussed opportunities to maximize and capacitate existing Human Resources for Health while promoting improved health care service delivery for Marinduque residents.Vergeire thanked the province for its attention to health services, allotting 30 percent of the province’s budget in order to respond to the current needs of its constituents.
She also committed to aid the province in improving its facilities to create a strengthened workforce for the province’s health care system.
“I would like to reiterate that these forward steps cannot be done by the DoH alone; hence, we enjoin the government of Marinduque, its health sector and all Marinduque?os to work together in creating a unified health care system,” Vergeire said.

Vergeire also visited the Torrijos Municipal Hospital and Santa Cruz District Hospital, also located in the province.
