DFA Warns Pinoys: Stay Safe as India-Pakistan Tension Rises

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines gave an important message on Wednesday: Filipinos living in India and Pakistan should be very careful because the two countries are currently in a dangerous conflict.

The problem started at a place called Kashmir, which both India and Pakistan have been fighting over for a long time. This time, both countries have launched attacks near the border.

💥 India fired missiles into some areas in Pakistan early Wednesday. At least 26 people died in that attack. India says it was a response to a recent attack on Indian tourists in Kashmir.

🇵🇰 Pakistan denied being behind the killings and said India’s missile strike was an “act of war.” They promised to strike back.

Are Filipinos Okay?

The DFA said no Filipinos have been hurt so far. That’s good news!

There are:

  • 3,151 Filipinos in Pakistan, including about 30 Filipinos living close (20 km) to the danger zone, and

  • 3,350 Filipinos in India, based on DFA’s records.

What Should Filipinos Do?

The DFA and the Philippine Embassy in Pakistan gave this advice to all Filipinos:

Stay away from dangerous areas like:

  • Bhimber City

  • Azad Kashmir

  • Sialkot Line of Control

  • Anywhere within 5 miles of the India-Pakistan border

Avoid public places and don’t go outside unless it’s really needed.
Stay indoors as much as possible.
Keep in touch with:

  • Your employer

  • The Philippine Embassy

  • Your Filipino community leaders
Listen to official announcements from local authorities.

📢 DFA spokesperson Teresita Daza said that the Philippine government is watching the situation very closely and hopes both countries can find a peaceful way to fix the problem.
