Senior Citizens Can Now Join the Tourism World! π΅πβοΈ
The Department of Tourism (DOT) just made a BIG announcement! Theyβre working with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) to help our Lolos and Lolas (thatβs our grandpas and grandmas!) find new jobs and learning opportunities in the exciting world of tourism!
π Whatβs the Plan?
DOT and NCSC signed a super important agreement (called a Memorandum of Understanding) in Makati City. This agreement means senior citizens can now be trained to help out in tourismβand even get jobs doing fun things in hotels, resorts, and tour spots!
π§ What Can Senior Citizens Do?
Here are some cool things seniors can learn and do:
πΊοΈ Tour Guides β Help tourists explore historic or cultural places.
ποΈ Hotel & Resort Helpers β Welcome guests and make them feel at home.
ποΈ Cultural Experts β Share fun stories about Filipino traditions!
π¨ Customer Service Roles β Greet visitors, answer questions, and give smiles!
There are many jobs seniors can doβas long as they are healthy and ready to learn.
βThey just need to be physically and mentally fit,β said NCSCβs chairperson Mary Jean Loreche.
π How Can Seniors Join?
Itβs easy! If a senior wants to join the training, they can just visit the nearest DOT regional office or contact the NCSC. DOT will include them in their training programs to help them learn everything they need!
Each region has different tourism spots, so there will be lots of fun choices depending on where you live.
π‘ Why Is This Important?
Our senior citizens have so much knowledge, kindness, and experienceβand now they can share it while having fun and maybe even earning a little money. The government wants to make sure that tourism is for everyone, including our elderly loved ones!
π More than Just Jobsβ¦
The DOT is also working on better buildings, roads, and tour packages so that traveling seniors feel safe, happy, and comfortable. Theyβre planning to add more discounts, friendly spaces, and fun experiences for older travelers too!
βWe want seniors to really enjoy life through tourism,β said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.
β€οΈ A Future That Includes Everyone
This program wonβt be just for a short timeβitβs meant to last and grow, so more and more seniors can benefit in the years to come. π
So if your Lolo or Lola wants to explore, learn, and help travelers see the beauty of the Philippines, nowβs their chance! π΄βοΈ
